The Denise Lawrence Band have a unique approach to the traditional jazz style focusing on both the familiar and the obscure songs of the jazz age. Denise’s lovely voice caresses bittersweet ballads, inspirational gospel songs and raunchy blues in a programme that is always varied and fascinating. With fine support from a rhythm section led by Denise’s husband and superb pianist Tony. |
8.45 – 11.30pm Terry Williams Ambassadors of Jazz

Terry Williams is a talented multi-instrumentalist who plays drums, trombone and vibes. In 2007 he hand-picked some of the best musicians around the south of England to form his Ambassadors of Jazz.. Jazz is a great joy to these musicians and it is clear they love to play it. This camaraderie is infectious and whether listening or dancing the audience is sure to enjoy the debut of Terry William’s new band. |

Tony is a quite formidable talent whose acoustic guitar playing brings a new dimension to swing music, the jazz classics and of course, to the music of the great Django Reinhardt. Tony is a true guitar virtuoso and he has managed to surround himself with musicians who are also absolutely outstanding. Together they combine their passions for this exquisite music bringing you an unforgettable lunchtime’s entertainment.

With their show entitled ‘Swing Fever’, BBC broadcaster and clarinettist, Chris Walker, returns to Langstone Cliff by public demand for an evening of your best loved tunes played by some of the finest swing musicians in the country. We are very proud to present in the line-up of musicians, one of Europe’s greatest ever clarinet players DAVE SHEPHERD. Often described as the British Benny Goodman, Dave has been voted in the UK’s annual jazz polls as the best clarinet player more times than he can remember. He has a pedigree second to none, having played with all the jazz greats like Freddy Randall, Teddy Wilson, Billie Holiday etc.

Ron is a brilliant clarinet and sax player who started his career in the Alan Elsdon Band and, after spells with the bands of Rod Mason and Keith Smith, is now a freelance musician who travels world wide. He is frequently seen with the Alex Welsh Reunion Band and, in the States has played the Newport Jazz Festival and Eddie Condon’s club in New York. |
